LeadingAge is a national organization, with state chapters, whose mission is to serve, inspire and advocate for seniors. This year, LeadingAge Tennessee’s Annual Conference & Vendor Showcase focused on what it means to live a life with intention - Life on Purpose. As a platinum sponsor, vendor, and conference speaker, Markentum had the unique opportunity to discover, over the three days of LeadingAge Tennessee, how living “Life on Purpose” impacts education, serving others, and meaningful interactions!
Each day carried keys to unlocking potentially missed opportunities:
The “Deep Dive Experience” launched a discussion of wide ranging topics that included: person-centered therapeutic engagement, hospitality, current workplace crisis, employee recruitment and retention. When we join in discussion, we are given the amazing ability to hear how others were addressing concerns and challenges in a purposeful manner to create quality solutions.
KEY: Start your week off with purpose by learning how to listen well to the knowledge that others in your community already possess.
Following Monday’s meetings, everyone networked at the Welcome Reception. As country artist Lawson Bates performed, interactions and delicious food was enjoyed by all.
KEY: With a room full of purpose, from singing to networking, we need to make sure that we don’t allow moments that are rich with reward pass us by.
With humor and bold interaction, The Body Language Dr., Donna Van Natten, reminded us that nonverbal cues are just as important, if not more, than the verbals in our daily interactions. Communication is happening all the time.
KEY: Taking the time to reflect on our interactions and asking "How aware are we of what we are saying to each other?"
All afternoon, various experts spoke on topics ranging from diabetes care updates, marketing strategies and tips, effectively addressing performance problems, and innovative dining ideas. Markentum's President, Chris, and Partnership Consultant, Jill, spoke on ways you can Grow Your Mark 🌱
KEY: At this event, everyone had access to great information to bring back to their communities and teams. Continue to surround yourself with experts in the areas you want to improve.
Renowned speaker, author and senior living advocate, Duane Cummings, had many in the room crying with a video of country star Jay Allen on stage with his mom, who has early onset dementia, performing a song he wrote celebrating her. Duane went on to describe how he had just met Jay Allen and, to the surprise of us all, called him during the session. Jay thanked everyone for their work in caring for others and living a life on purpose.
KEY: You never know who you will encounter tomorrow that will benefit from the purposeful life choices you are making today.
In the morning, during Pancakes and Policy, we learned that ⅓ of Americans have no retirement plan and that Tennessee ranks 44th in the United States for senior health. Following the public policy talk, representatives for LeadingAge National invited operators to share what they struggle with and any ideas for solutions going into next year.
KEY: A life on purpose isn’t afraid to look beyond problems to discover and find new creative opportunities.
Did everyone leave LeadingAge Tennessee living Life On Purpose? Gwyn Earl, the incredible Executive Director of LeadingAge Tennessee stated:
“I get to be an advocate for you all in this room. I get to connect our provider members with our partners which provides better care for residents. I love serving #allthingssenior. But most importantly, I get to assist, just like you, the resident in room #113B. In the end, it is all for that person in #113B, and that is a purpose worth living for today.”
Markentum is thankful to continue our purpose in supporting those who work tirelessly for seniors. We encourage you to take these keys and live your life on purpose!
