As a company focused solely on the senior living industry, Markentum believes that we are responsible for both providing successful marketing efforts for our partners and raising awareness and support for specific issues that impact older adults.
One of these significant issues is Alzheimer’s and other dementia type diseases. Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia are currently responsible for 1 in 3 senior deaths. These types of conditions kill more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
While facts like this are sobering, they also serve to illuminate the importance of the work being done to help bring these types of disease to an end. At Markentum, we want to help bring change. We want to be a part of the “Fight to End Alzheimer’s” and see advancements being made to help people facing this disease.
Our Mission 💪
Over the past couple of years, Markentum has partnered with an organization, the Alzheimer’s Association, that we see doing good work “by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support (alz.org/about)." The Alzheimer’s Association allows us to participate on a local level in a global cause. As a team of creatives, we “give back” by using our abilities to draw attention to how people of all ages and backgrounds can be involved.
Each year, our campaign, the Fight to End Alzheimer’s, works in tandem with two major initiatives that The Alzheimer’s Association promotes. We don’t think that we need to recreate the wheel in helping with Alzheimer’s awareness; we need to partner with other people doing a fantastic job.
Our 2019 campaign was focused on the theme of boxing. Boxing can be a grueling exhausting battle that takes a lot of energy and heart. The same is true for the people involved in the fight with dementia. Many people share how Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia leave them physically and emotionally drained. Caregivers and family members also feel this fatigue. Markentum used the boxing gloves as a symbol that we want to remind anyone affected by Alzheimer’s that we are willing to go the distance and stay in the fight until we knock out this disease!
Our 2020 Fight to End ALZ Campaign 🎯
This year our Fight to End Alzheimer’s campaign theme is the bow and arrow. With events and activities being changed due to COVID-19, we want to motivate people to “hit the target” from a distance! Archery demands focus and concentration with a necessary awareness of both the surroundings and the intended target. We believe these are key components in fighting to end dementia-related diseases while navigating the regulations and requirements we are currently facing during the current pandemic. COVID-19 will not keep us from raising awareness and support, but it has challenged us to create new innovative solutions.
How We Get Involved 💜
Two major initiatives from the Alzheimer’s Association that Markentum will be actively involved in 2020 are:
- The Longest Day
- Walk To End Alzheimer’s
The Longest Day, which happens every year on the summer solstice, is an opportunity for us to remind others that living with and caring for dementia-related diseases can feel like the longest day, every day. Our goal for this year was to equip people with tips and techniques for maintaining good brain health. Each Markentum team member was challenged to share some healthy brain activities and participate in that activity during The Longest Day. Connect with us on social media to see what each person shared!
Our next goal is to raise support as we engage in the Walk To End Alzheimer’s. With team members in New York, Florida, and Colorado, we are excited to walk across the country with others dedicated to raising awareness and support. For more information or to find a walk near you, we encourage you to visit the Walk to End Alzheimer’s website.
We want to offer our heartfelt thanks and support to every person involved with the Fight to End Alzheimer’s. Whether you are a caregiver, doctor, family member, or a person waking up every day facing this illness, we appreciate you and are fighting with you! We would love to talk with you more. Connect with us through our social media pages or join team Markentum, and walk with us!
