Silver Springs State Park | Silver Springs, FL

Florida has many beautiful springs and rivers for people to enjoy nature. Like most places in Florida you will see an abundance of turtles, alligators, herons, and hawks. What you will ONLY see at Silver Springs are monkeys! Rhesus macaques were released on an island in what used to be a theme park along the river. Unbeknownst to the owner, macaques can swim! So they quickly escaped their island and have inhabited the area for about 80 years.

Although there are a host of ecological concerns about the population, my children were awed and amazed to see a troop of macaques on our trip.
